The Lone Star Military Vehicle Preservation Association

2007 Boy Scout Parade 2007

February 3, 2007

A very chilly morning, with 28 degrees indicated when we set out for this event. By 7:20am or so the team was assembled in the TxDoT parking lot, several members having braved the cold to drive their military vehicles in.

“Crunchies” in attendance were Herb T with his GPW, Toby C with his MB, Fred H with his Navy CJ2A, and Scott S with his M38A1 and trailer. Medium vehicles were represented by Madison H with his M37 and Danny K with his M37B1. The heavies were represented by John SS and Jeff L with their M35A2’s, and Rory C with sons David and Patrick in the M813A1. A great turnout for a day that was predicted to be unpleasantly cold.

At the appointed time we moved up to the bridge for the customary confusion and disorder while we waited for our Scouts and for the parade to begin. There we met up with Bill B in all his finest Scout regalia. In time we had Pack 395 distributed amongst the smaller vehicles and Pack 403 and some others in the heavies. By then the sun had come up and the weather, while not warm, turned quite nice. Quartermaster Herb used this time well, selling a handsome load of inert .50 cal rounds to the Scouts.

The parade started promptly 20 minutes late. This is one of the slower parades and we were well back in the pack, so it was after 10am before we finally started moving. We meandered our way slowly up Congress in a nicely staggered formation. Once the Capitol was reached, several of us stopped and unloaded most of our Scouts and parents. All were very appreciative for the rides.

The crew reassembled at the TxDoT parking lot, visited a while, then departed for home. Another fun and satisfactory event in the club history books.
