Muster Day 2009

April 18-19 2009

Members started to arrive on Friday setting up in front of the museum and in the reenactment area down the hill. The weather started off rainy but about 1000 hours on Saturday it cleared. Just in time for the thousands of guests to arrive. Yes, there were thousands!
Shortly before the first WWII reenactment, we started the “jeep taxi” taking guests to all events at Camp Mabry. It was a complete success judging by the constant line of riders both at the museum and at the reenactment areas. There were, however, traffic flow problems. We were not all traveling in the same direction. A situation we hope is corrected next year.
In the best of military traditions, we did experience a bit of mechanical trouble which was supervised by the many and worked on by the few. Fred H experienced clutch linkage problems and Rick H had a free flow oil leak from a PTO. Never the less, we came, we fixed, we played, and we went home.
Sunday we kept the taxi going and added a Vietnam reenactment in the afternoon. A convoy of US (mostly MVPA vehicles) and G Company troops drove on the parade field and was ambushed. We stopped and the G Company guys assaulted and killed the bad guys. All in front of an audience of about 2500 to 3000 people! All in all, it was a huge success.
This year we fielded about 15 vehicles and 17 members to participate in the Muster Day events.

This year was a great event with an estimated 15000 people showing up.
