Lone Star MVPA was invited to attend The Red White Blue Banquet event at the Bastrop Convention Center. The Event was a Banquet for the Bastrop area Veterans; this included Elgin Veterans also. The event is a $15.00 a plate dinner with proceeds going to the NJROTC of both Elgin High School and Bastrop High School. The event was for all Veterans of any era. Doors opened for seating at 5:30 PM with the main event starting at 6:30 PM. Club members were asked to come before 3:00 pm to set-up their vehicles and displays. Our host provided a prime location for our vehicles in the front entrance. Vehicles displayed included Jim H’s M38A1, Madison H’s M37A1, James H with his desert tan M1009, and Domingo M’s camo green M1008.
Club members set up a large display just inside the building, wearing drag from various eras. Charlie W made a surprise visit and taught the ROTC kids all about rifles. There were over 70 feet of displays including Domingo’s and James H’s Chaplin display. The displays were well visited, and many war stories were shared.
Dinner was served after displays were visited, with more than 550 people in attendance. ROTC young men and women helped pack up at the end. All the ROTC teachers expressed thanks and said we would be invited to the next year’s event.
