LSMVPA intended to participate in the annual Independence Day parade in Lakeway, as we often have in the past. We usually parade in rain or shine, so although it had rained heavily all night, and continued to do so, many of us prepared to go anyway.
But it was not be this time.
Most of our group wisely stayed at home while waiting for word; but due to the distance, therefore time, needed for them to travel, Sam R in M1009, Amanda C in M1009, and Rory C in M1028A2, left their homes early and headed toward Lakewaway in the torrents of rain.
Rory had the driver’s side windshield wiper blown off his truck, so pulled over to make a field expedient repair. The passenger wiper was transferred to the driver’s side, and a rag tied around the other wiper arm to keep it from scraping on the glass. He and Amanda then decided to wait in place for word, as continuing the long drive to Lakeway under those circumstances seemed unwise and counterproductive.
The official word eventually got passed that the parade was cancelled. Amanda and Rory went back home, as did Sam, who was the only one to actually get to the parade staging area.
This weather event turned out to cause catastrophic flooding across central Texas in the next 36 hours.
