I think we have a new club event that must be the smallest number of entries in total. This year that honor has to go to Manor for their annual Lions Festival parade. I made my way over to Manor about 8:30am or so and much to my delight, Barry F was there with his wife Bianca. Barry brought his Servi-Car trike and had it unloaded and warming up when I arrived.
I unloaded my jeep and fretted over getting blocked in but that simply wasn’t going to be the case for this one. The parade organizer came over and gave us our staging number of 9 and said we’d be after the big Fire Truck. Well, the parade was to start at 10:00am and by about 9:50, everyone was lined up and ready to roll.
So with a whopping 12 entries in this years parade, we headed into town. Driving up the main avenue was fun as there were a ton of people on both sides of the street. This event has been like that over the years. Since the parade is a ‘tossing event’, most entrants tossed candy to the sides of the road that was snatched up by the kids and adults. I tossed 7.62 brass and think everyone got a huge kick out of it instead of candy. One parent commented “very appropriate”.
We also learned Barry’s Servi-Car doesn’t like to idle and move at a walking pace. So to keep some airflow over the engine, he kept doing circles in front of me with Bianca holding on for dear life but with a big old grin the whole time. On the way back, his engine heated up to the point that he had to pull off to let it cool. I received an email from him later that day indicating everything was just fine with his trike too.
After the parade, I loaded the jeep up and headed back into town.
The little old jeep ran perfectly on this sunny, short parade day.
