Texas Independence Day Parade 2016

DATE: 5 March 2016

Event: Texas Independence Day Parade
Date: Saturday, March 5th 0930
Location: Congress Ave, Austin

One never knows what weather we will have for this event. Last year it was 32*, past years have been warm, or cold and wet, but today was dry, and t-shirt weather.

This year’s parade was a bit sparse, both by club standards, and from other entries. For various reasons, many of our regulars were not able to attend today, and they were missed.

We did have Toby C with his MB, Ward B with his MB, Fred H with his Navy CJ-2A, Madison H with his M37B1, and Caitlin and Rory in the M1009 towing the M116A3 HSTRU trailer.

Once on the bridge, we found our spot and waited for the usual horde of entries. While there were quite a few, we all managed to fit loosely in two lanes, rather than the normal jammed into 3-plus.

The parade itself started on time and went without a hitch. The Cowboys from UT did something different this year, firing their cannon about every 30 seconds for the whole route. It sounded cool, but did not appear to go over well with the crowd!
